Meditation literally saved my life when I was 21 years old. I first learned these amazing tools during my first yoga teacher training and then when I was majoring in Health Psychology at California State Long Beach. I also just finished a class in grad school that was titled “Self-Care: Role Modeling Health Behaviors” and we dove into meditation as well!
Recently, I read a study that showed that chronic stress is just as detrimental to the heart as smoking 5 cigarettes a day! It also is linked to 80% of doctor’s visits.
Stress increases inflammation in the body, disrupts the gut flora, increases blood pressure, lowers the immune system, can disrupt hormonal balance and increases weight gain.
Meditation, on the other hand, turns off the harmful stress response. It also increases the part of the brain responsible for compassion and self-awareness.
Class will start with deep breathing exercises and guided meditation by Carly along with live music by Patita Pavana who will also introduce and demonstrate meditation with beads.
